About Hindi Diwas: When is Hindi Diwas
Hindi Diwas is also known as ‘Hindi Day’. It is celebrated on the 14th of September each year, to commemorate the adoption of Hindi in the Devanagari Script as one of India’s official languages.

And while most of us might prefer speaking in English, go to North India and it is an entirely different story. There, it is the ‘mother tongue’ of most people!
That being said, Hindi is one of the two official languages of India. The other one,of course, is English.

Hindi Diwas Information: History and why it is celebrated
The Hindi language has its roots firmly entrenched in the annals of Indian History. Back in the times when the British ruled India, English was declared to be the official language.However, there was no stopping people from speaking largely in Hindi even back then.
It was only after our country gained independence from British colonial rule in the year 1947, however, that things began to truly change. One of these changes was prompted by the need to preserve the rich heritage of Indian cultures and languages. Thus, it was on the 14th of September 1949, that the Hindi Language written in Devanagari script, was adopted as one of the official languages of India. This was done under the aegis of the Constituent Assembly, under article 343 of the Indian Constitution.
Thus, it only became natural to ‘celebrate’ the Hindi language becoming ‘official’. The very first celebration took place on September 14th, 1953.
