The Clever Fish Story for Kids
Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a fisherman who was fishing in the river as usual. He cast his net into the water and simply waited for the fish to unwittingly get trapped in it. The idea, of course, was to procure a hefty catch that he could sell in the market for some good money!
After some time had passed, the fisherman felt a bit of rustling in the net. He thought he must have got a good deal of fish trapped inside his net, so he went to check it. What he saw confounded him.There was only a solitary fish in the net, struggling to get free. He grabbed hold of it and just when he was going to put it into his basket, the fish cried:
“Oh fisherman, please spare me! I will die without water, please put me back into the river.”
However, the fisherman looked as though he simply didn’t care. Understanding this, the fish went on:
“I implore you, oh fisherman! Tell you what, if you set me free I shall tell all my fish friends to come to this side of the river, so you can have more fish than you ever dreamed of catching.”
This seemed to catch the fisherman’s attention. He thought to himself, ‘Now, that’s not a bad deal at all. It’s certainly worth giving up a single fish, if I’m able to get several more in exchange!’
And so he let the hapless fish go. The fish swam away happily, and the fisherman returned home happy too, thinking that the next day he would be in the possession of a significant amount of fish.
The next day came, and it was with a sense of excitement that the fisherman went to the river bank to fish once again. This time round, there was not even one fish to catch.
The clever fish had managed to save her own life, and that of her friends too!
